UNSOC Speaker Series: A Global Fight for Human Rights

Public Hosted by UTS United Nations Society

It’s instilled in the United Nations Charter, but what does it mean to obtain and defend human rights? Is it the pursuit of dignity? Freedom? Equality? Justice? In a globalised society of different views and different voices, are we doing enough to protect human rights?

In the first UTS UNSOC Speaker Series event for 2014, we are joined by John Raciti, the Australian High Commissioner and Ambassador for the International Human Rights Commission.

Join us for a discussion on Australia’s forays in human rights, the progress of the UN Human Rights Council, thematic issues of indigenous issues, social equality, disability, gender equality, and more.

John Raciti is the Australian High Commissioner for the International Human Rights Commission, a United Nations-affiliated International Governmental Organisation seeking the protection of human rights for people around the world and promoting the cultural of Peace among nations. Raciti, a UTS alumni, has worked on panels in discussion of human rights for indigenous communities and minorities.

Presented by the UTS United Nations Society, The UTS UNSOC Speaker Series is a collection of speaker panels dedicated to bringing informed, engaging discussions of social challenges worldwide.
